Using Twitter to leverage all those things I mentioned in the previous post, is ever easier than you think.
We will talk about everything today.
First of all, let me explain the idea. The idea is to leverage the Twitter population to your needs, ie your website’s needs.
Let me be clear, I am not saying you should spam. No, twitter is a great place and I want to keep it clean. I am talking about leveraging.
Ok, so, lets assume we have a little review blog created in wordpress (you should make as much as you can in wordpress, it just rocks).
Lets take a niche for that blog, blue ray dvd players. It is a nice niche, with plenty of products, and juicy prices > juicy commissions.
Now, the goal of this post is not to tell you how to build a site like that, that is a whole different matter. Lets assume you already have one site on that niche. I might (not swearing, I said might) post a step by step guide to make a review site in the future. For now, lets just assume its there.
The next step is to make a twitter account. Try to find a name that specifies your niche, in our example BlueRayDVDPlayers would be awesome. Try to be specific, not so much for SEO value, but for the people who check out your profile. You want to instantly let them know what your tweets are about, dont make them look for it. Also, dont bother trying to trick people into thinking you are showing something else, just so they might buy from you. No, twitter is strictly voluntary, people follow and unfollow whoever they like. Just keep it as straight as possible, trust me. It is better to have 100 followers interested in your products than 1000 random ones.
Another thing to notice, is that you need to make a nice twitter account. Don’t use the premade backgrounds, upload a background pic of your choosing, write your bio (or your site’s bio, its cool) and upload a pic/logo. Of course, link to your site in the site field. Check out a few twitter profiles, you will get what I am saying.
Ok, now, we have our twitter account set up and pretty. How do we leverage it?
The answer is RSS.
Take your site’s RSS feed (if your cms does not produce RSS feeds then it sucks, switch to wordpress). I suggest you also burn it through feedburner, it will make your life easier.
Then go to twitterfeed, make an account, create a new rss parse, link your twitter account and enter your RSS feed url. Save, and you are done with that. (leave the default url shortener bit.ly for click tracking)
Now, what that did was to take your site’s RSS feed, and post it as tweets from your account. Twitterfeed will pull your RSS at the intervals you entered (default is each hour) and if it finds new content, it will post it. The link is automatically shortened, and the exposure of your site has increased already! All your followers will now see your updated posts and articles on twitter!
Oh, wait. We don’t have any followers yet.
That is ok.
Here is the key element of this technique. The way to get automatic, targetted, high value followers to your twitter account, and get all of the benefits of twitter that I talked about in the previous post.
The tool is this, twittersnipe. It is perfectly easy to install, its safe, and it works, I assure you of that. The price is pathetic for what it can do. Not to mention it will earn its money back in the first week.
Now, follow the instructions and install the tool to your host. Add your twitter account to it, and we get to key part. Add your keywords. The keywords should be targetted, like you would target a ppc campaign. In our example, it would be stuff like:
- dvd blue ray
- blu ray dvd
- blu ray
- dvd players
- blu ray dvd players
- blue ray players
- blu ray dvd player
- blue ray player
- bluray dvd player
- dvd player
- blu ray hd dvd player
- blue ray dvds
- hd dvd players
- hd dvd player
- blu ray players
- bluray player
- blue ray
- blueray
- blue ray dvd recorders
- blueray dvd players
- review dvd
- samsung blu ray dvd player
- blue ray disc players
- blue ray vs hd
- high definition dvd players
- blue ray hd
- hd dvd players reviews
- samsung blu ray dvd
- best hd dvd players
- hd dvd player review
- toshiba hd dvd players
- upconverting dvd player
You can get lists like that with the adwords keyword tool.
Once you put your keyword list, click snipe. Change the number of attempts to something like 500, and click select all keywords. Let the tool run, it will automatically search for the keywords. If they are mentioned at the time of running, it will follow the user that tweeted it.
Twitter does not allow a large number of followers, so as soon as you hit the limit, wait for 2 days, and then reopen twittersnipe. Click unfollow, and it will remove all those who did not follow you back. Rerun the SNIPE function again, as I said, twitter is very real time. You need to run it at different intervals to get the maximum from it.
That is it actually. It might seem like a mess, but when you do it once, it will be dead easy the next time. Doing this for every site you own will increase your traffic and your earnings significantly. Make sure not to spam twitter though, leverage on it professionaly.
Lets recap:
- Make twitter account, make it look good.
- Add your RSS to twitterfeed, link your twitter account.
- Add twitter account to twittersnipe, add keywords.
- Snipe followers, wait 2 days, clean follow list, rerun.
- Repeat for every site you own. Resnipe every month or so until you get to your desired follower number.
Easy. Just do it.
